Welcome to week 9! Thank you for another great week, FSK! We want to give a big shout-out to our school community for being proactive, supportive and responsible by following our COVID safety protocols. We are happy that all our students are healthy and doing well. Thank you for keeping your children home when they show symptoms. Please continue to remind each other to keep our masks on at school and practice health and safety guidelines. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding.
There is NO School on Monday October 11th, for Indigenous Peoples’ Day. Celebrate at the Yerba Buena Gardens Festival!
We hope you enjoy the long weekend. We will see you all back at school Tuesday, October 12th and remember it is also Picture Makeup day!
Updates & Reminders:
1. COVID-related information: Thank you to all our students, families and teachers for being flexible and understanding as we navigated through this week. We want to share some information and reminders we learned from our experience:
- Starting the week of 10/18, there will be some changes to our After-School classes. In an effort to reduce the number of close contacts, we will keep students in the same day-school classrooms in the same after-school class.
- When we are made aware of a positive case, we will send 2 memos to the community. One memo will be sent to the entire school community to let you know there has been a positive case on campus. This memo is called the General Exposure Memo. The second memo will be sent ONLY to close contacts. If you receive this memo, it means your child has been identified as a close contact and there will be specific information and instructions with how to proceed.
- We were made aware that for all close contacts, in order to return to school, your child will need proof of a negative PCR test OR rapid test administered at a clinic or testing site. Rapid tests administered at home do NOT qualify to return to school. Rapid tests administered at a doctor’s office, clinic or testing site WILL be accepted. Please see more information from the District here under “returning to school”.
- Here are some resources for rapid testing sites: United in Health testing site, OnPoint Testing, Test the People (Oakland)
- Results from testing with Color Lab are taking longer than they did in the past so please expect 48 hours or more to receive results.
- SFUSD has created another location and dates for testing for Close Contacts. Please see testing options for Close Contacts on the District website here.
2. Children & Family Town Hall Meeting: Supervisor Mar and Abigail Stewart-Kahn, Special Advisor for Children and Family Recovery from the Department of Children, Youth & Their Families is holding a virtual event to seek input from San Francisco communities about your needs to recover from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic with a focus on equity to include low-income families, children with disabilities, English learners, LGBTQ, foster youth and more. 3. SSC Ballot: We need your help! Please vote for 2 parents/community members to serve on the SSC for the 2021-2022 & 2022-2023 school years. Please vote ONE time per family by using this link to the ballot. Please submit your vote before Friday, October 15th! Thank you.
4. Science Sacks are back in action: Yay! Our Science Sacks team has brought the program back to our students. Please see the attached info sheet for details and email the Committee with any questions.
5. Enrollment Fair for 2022-2023: SFUSD’s virtual enrollment fair is starting soon! Please see the flyer and website for more details. The Middle School Enrollment fair will take place on Wednesday October 27th. First round applications are due February 4, 2022. Make sure to mark your calendar. For any incoming Kindergarteners and new familles, FSK’s virtual enrollment fair is scheduled for Tuesday, October 26th at 10:00, 1:00 and 5:00pm. We are also offering one in-person information session (NOT tours) in November, December and January. Help us spread the word and check for updates on myfsk.org!
