Computer Science

At Francis Scott Key ES, we are fortunate that technology is a priority where funds are invested so that each classroom has a Promethean board with a document camera as well as 6 chromebook laptops. There is also a PC computer lab with a full time certificated teacher who meets each class once a week for 40 minutes where students can begin to build their digital skills for 21st century that involves working collaboratively and using critical thinking skills to solve problems. Our students begin at Kindergarten learning basic technology skills such as how to use the computer safely and responsibly to 5th graders researching and preparing projects through interactive platforms such as Google Classroom.

Having access to digital devices such as laptops and iPads allows our students an alternative way to acquire knowledge as well as a way to showcase what they have learned. Our staff as well as students use the Pegasi learning site https://fskpegasi.weebly.com/ as one of the main sites to navigate to the learning links we are using including the current yearly software subscriptions listed below. Take a little time to explore some of the links with your child including the computer science links!

Computer Science is a part of our instructional computer curriculum. Learners will find out what is computer science? How does it affect their lives? Who are computer engineers? Most importantly, learners will have ample opportunities to practice being computer scientists by coding using Beebots, Dash & Dot robots as well as block programs such as Scratch. Check it out!
